This page features pickguards for Gibson's Kalamazoo guitars. The brand name was first used by Gibson in the 1930s, but our guards are for the budget electrics made in the mid to late 1960s. The 1966 models used a shape very similar to Fender's popular Mustang model; in 1967 the body shape changed to the Gibson SG shape. These are cool & fairly collectable, but lack many of the refinements found on Gibsons. We worked on one once & while looking at the body routing, decided that the bodies must have been molded using a sawdust composite slurry method; there are some angles under the pickguard that would have been just about impossible to complete with a pin router in 1967!  The pickguards appear to have been molded as well; you can see the mold release maks on the back of the old pickguards. Our favorite Kalamazoo artist was Richard Parks from Tulsa, Ok. I helped him get a '66 KG2A from Hackathorn Music, where I worked after school in 1970. He played it with me on many gigs thru high school. Both Richard & Jack Hackathorn are gone but not forgotten... Here is our favorite Kalamazoo pic...Dianne Bowens of the Soul Choppers!

One thing: these pickguards appear to fit both the Mustang shape & the SG shape bodies.
