This page features Pickguards for Gretsch guitars & basses. One of the oldest music companies in our industry, Gretsch has gone through many ownership changes & has had a number of production facilities & methods. The guitars made in New York were pretty much handmade, & the pickup locations vary, so for these, we recommend our "Gretsch Vintage Universal" pickguard (PG 67V), which has the correct 1950s - 1960s shape, but no pickup notches so you can match it up to your guitar & notch for the pickups yourself. The 1960s Gretsch Corvette solidbodies were fitted with pickguards that have mostly decomposed now. Often, these have broken up into tiny pieces, but we have put together templates to make replacements. When working on guitars with these decomposed guards, be sure to carefully remove the pieces, then clean the nitrate residue left behind. This residue can ruin your paint finish & metal parts. If you are sending in the pieces of your Gretsch Corvette to be duplicated, please tape them together carefully so we can determine the correct profile shape.
In the early 1980s, the Gretsch company sent us a box of their original old pickguards, some dating to the mid 1950s, but no documentation of what was what. We used these for our routing patterns, but we recognize that the descriptions on some of the models may be a little confusing. In the early 1990s, Duke Kramer & Art Wiggs asked us to help out with some Gretsch pickgards, this time manufacturing the parts with logo & graphics.
The Gretsch Gold pickguards are made by lacquering the back side of clear plexigass in gold. We can gold lacquer a plexi Gretsch pickuard for you for a $20.00 labor charge. For the metal mounting bracket that screws into the side of the body, we have our "universal" bracket which looks similar to the old Gretsch ones for $15.00 including all necessary screws, etc.
Fender, owner of Gretsch, has asked us not to use their trademarks, so we do not put the Gretsch logo on our gold Gretsch Pickguards.
